Planaria sp Digestive tract
The digestive tract in Planaria sp consists of the mouth, pharynx and intestine. This animal does not have an anus. The digestive tract of food starts from the mouth which is in the ventral, more or less in the middle of the body. Pharynx can be extended and connected to the anus (gastrovascular cavity). Some Planaria sp have a branched intestine: one branch anteriorly and two branches posteriorly. Each branch of the intestine branched again throughout the body. The three branches of the intestine rejoin the pharynx. Food enters by mouth, and digestive results are circulated throughout the body through the intestinal branches, while undigested food scraps are released by mouth.
